site.btaMoney in Circulation at End-June 2024 Up by 1.8% from End-March, Central Bank Reports

In April-June 2024, the money in circulation in Bulgaria increased by 1.8% from the first quarter of the year, show data published by the Bulgarian National Bank on Thursday. At end-June, the share of banknotes in circulation was 97.94% and of coins, 2.05%.

The banknotes in circulation numbered 590.6 million and were worth BGN 28.763 billion, up by 1.4% and 1.8%, respectively, from end-March 2024 and by 4% and 8.2%, respectively, from end-June 2023. At the end of the second quarter of 2024, the biggest share of banknotes in circulation - 41.12% - were those of BGN 50 and the smallest share - 5.53% - were those of BGN 5.

The counterfeit banknotes numbered 409, including 397 in circulation, which is an increase by 139 banknotes from the first quarter of 2024.

The coins in circulation numbered 3.281 billion and amounted to BGN 604.9 million, up by 1% and 1.7%, respectively, from end-March 2024.
