The debris found near the Romanian village of Plauru on Thursday is from a drone made in Iran and used by the Russian army, the Romanian Ministry of National Defence said Thursday.  Images of the debris on the websites of some local media show burned vegetation and several craters, Digi24 reported.

The drone fragments will be collected and analysed by the military to determine whether the aircraft was carrying explosives.

General Vlad Gheorghiță, the Romanian Chief of Defence Staff, commented that Romania has a very good system for air defence monitoring. The debris from Russian drones found in Romania is most probably the result of the Ukrainian armed forces' actions, he said, as quoted by Agerpres. He explained that the origin of the debris should be determined from a chemical point of view to ensure there is no danger for the population and the environment. Regarding the destruction of Russian drones entering Romanian territory, he commented: "We have air policing and that is its mission."

Earlier on Thursday, the Ministry of National Defence confirmed that it had found debris from a Geran-type drone of Russian origin in the vicinity of Plauru, Tulcea, where in the last two nights warning messages were sent for falling objects as a result of Russian attacks at infrastructure on the Ukrainian bank of the Danube.
