A fire that broke out on the territory of North Macedonia has affected an area of about 1 hectare on Bulgarian territory, said the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Blagoevgrad on Friday. The fire on the Bulgarian side of the border has been localised and extinguished, with no injuries suffered.

Firefighters from the Bulgarian side remain in constant contact with their colleagues from North Macedonia, said Commissioner Valentin Vasilev, Director of the Fire Safety and Population Protection Regional Directorate.

The Fire Safety regional office in Petrich received a signal on Thursday evening about a forest fire on the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia, in the immediate vicinity of the border. A team visited the fire site, where there were already ten forest officials and local population from the village of Gega near Petrich. The Southwest State Enterprise also reported that forest officials from the Petrich State Forestry went to the border and worked with the aim to prevent the fire from entering the territory of Bulgaria.
