site.btaDefence Ministers of Bulgaria, Romania Sign MoU on NATO's Regional Special Operations Component Command

At the summit in Washington, D.C., the NATO allies yet again declared their unity, decisiveness and strength, marking 75 years since the establishment of the most successful political-military union, the Bulgarian Defence Ministry's press centre said on Thursday. Outside of the official programme, the Defence Ministers of Bulgaria and Romania signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of headquarters of Regional Special Operations Component Command (R-SOCC).

The headquarters will carry out planning, command, and management of the Alliance's Special Operations Forces in the Black Sea Region and will contribute to the southeastern flank's greater deterrence and defence potential.

The Bulgarian Defence Minister also took part in a signing ceremony for letters of intent to build harmonized military mobility corridors between Italy, Albania, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria within Pan-European Transport Corridor VIII, as well as between Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania. The corridors will contribute to NATO's deterrence and defence potential, the cooperation between the countries in the field of military mobility, as well as the deepening of NATO-EU cooperation.

Caretaker Defence Minister Zapryanov took part in the NATO summit together with the Chief of Defence, Admiral Emil Eftimov, and Deputy Defence Minister Adelina Nikolova as part of the Bulgarian delegation led by caretaker Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dimitar Glavchev.
