site.btaBulgaria Applies for Compensation for Aid to Ukraine
Caretaker Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov told bTV that Bulgaria has applied for EUR 57 million in compensation for the aid the country is sending to Ukraine.
Talking about what the seventh aid package for Ukraine contain, Zapryanov pointed out that there will be again weapons and equipment that are redundant for the Bulgarian army. He stressed that the procedure for preparing this package is not very easy. “At the moment we are working with Ukraine: we told them what we have in excess, and when they confirm in writing what they want - then this aid will be sent,” Zapryanov explained.
“For all the aid we send, we are compensated. We have already requested EUR 57 million for part of the packages. We have 7 and a half million confirmed,” he said, adding that the US has earmarked USD 32 million for Bulgaria, and one of the allied countries has already transferred a sum of around EUR 30 million.
According to Zapryanov, there is no way to weaken the Bulgarian army by sending aid to Ukraine. In his words, this country continues to provide only arms, military equipment and ammunition, which are superfluous for its own army.
