"The refusal of President Rumen Radev to head Bulgaria's delegation at the NATO summit is a confirmation of what I have warned many times - his positions serve foreign, not national interests and are subjected to dependencies and ties in the East, contrary to the Euro-Atlantic values and principles," Movement for Rights and Freedoms chairman Delyan Peevski said on Thursday, quoted by the party's press centre.

According to him, Radev proved that he is not worthy to represent the interests of the Bulgarian people in NATO.

By inventing "different views" and fleeing abroad when NATO meets in Sofia and other similar examples, Radev is playing a double, hypocritical game, Peevski believes. According to him, Radev is consistently and demonstratively trying to divert Bulgaria from its commitments and destabilize it by pushing Russian influence and propaganda at this critical time for the security of Europe and the world.

The consistent position of the Euro-Atlantic majority in the previous parliaments in support of Ukraine, against Russia's unprovoked aggression and Bulgaria's loyalty to the Alliance cannot be compromised in the name of personal interests and political ambitions, Peevski added.

He said that playing the security card and instilling fears in the people is a downfall for the high office of the president and an abuse of people's trust.

Earlier in the day, the head of State's press secretariat said that President Rumen Radev did not accept the Council of Ministers' offer to lead the Bulgarian delegation and participate in the summit of heads of state and government in Washington.
