1879: Newly elected Bulgarian Prince Alexander I is sworn in before First Grand National Assembly in Tarnovo.
1962: Hieromonk Paissii of Hilandar is canonized by Bulgarian Patriarch Kiril on occasion of 200th anniversary of his Slav-Bulgarian History.
1974: Diplomatic relations with Portugal (established 1925, severed September 15, 1945) are restored and upgraded to embassy level.
1987: UN International Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, ratified on October 9, 1986, enters into force for Bulgaria.
1991: Diplomatic relations established with El Salvador.
1992: First Optional Protocol to International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, ratified on December 10, 1991, enters into force for Bulgaria.
