Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev presented the natural sciences olympic teams for 2024 with the national flag during a ceremony at the Council of Ministers Granite Hall on Friday.
Caretaker Education and Science Minister Galin Tsokov praised the pupils for their achievements. "Nearly 70 medals were won last year and over 10 this year," he said.
The Natural Sciences Olympic Teams Association was founded in 2010 with the main aim of supporting the Bulgarian national science teams in their preparation and participation in international competitions and olympiads.
Bulgaria’s best-performing pupils in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, linguistics, informatics, astronomy, and astrophysics, led by their supervisors, go through a selection and preparation process each year before taking part in the most prestigious olympiads in the world.
Over the years, the Association has increased its support for the teams and funded trainings with the top natural sciences pupils. The preparations now involve between 30 and 60 pupils who have achieved excellent results in national rounds of olympiads.
