Direct trains via Plovdiv will be suspended from June 25 due to the modernization of the Railway Station in Plovdiv, the press centre of the Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) said on Thursday.

The international train between Sofia and Istanbul will run on an alternative route through Stolnik - Karlovo - Tulovo - Stara Zagora. A newly appointed train will travel along the route of the international train from Sofia to Plovdiv to serve travellers in this direction.

Trains from Sofia via Plovdiv to Varna and Burgas, as well as from Varna and Burgas via Plovdiv to Sofia, also change route via Filipovo, Chirpan and Mihailovo stations instead of Krumovo and Dimitrovgrad, which will reduce the travel time by an average of 15 minutes.

All trains on the Sofia - Svilengrad - Sofia route will run only between Sofia and Plovdiv. Additional regional trains will be provided for the routes Plovdiv East - Svilengrad - Plovdiv East and Krumovo - Svilengrad - Krumovo. For passengers of all trains with a travel route from and to Krumovo, transportation by buses will be provided in the section between Krumovo and Plovdiv stations.

The changes are in connection with the implementation of the next phase of the large-scale repair works for the modernization of the railway, contact network and telecommunication systems at the Plovdiv Railway Station.
