World Refugee Day (since 2001, declared by UN General Assembly resolution on December 4, 2000).

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1954: The first bridge over the Danube River linking Ruse, Bulgaria, with Giurgiu, Romania, is inaugurated.

1963: Diplomatic relations with Austria (established in May 1919, suspended April 1, 1938, re-established at legation level March 7, 1947) are upgraded to embassy level.

1975: Diplomatic relations are established with Mauritius.

1999: The VMRO - Bulgarian National Movement Party is established.
