site.btaBulgarian Academy of Sciences President Revalski: Romanian Academy Among Academies with Which BAS Has Closest Cooperation

The Romanian Academy is certainly among the academies with which the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) has the closest cooperation, BAS President Acad. Julian Revalski said in an interview for BTA in Bucharest on Wednesday. He visited the Romanian capital and met with Romanian Academy President Ioan-Aurel Pop.

In Revalski's words, the Romanian Academy is in the first one or two places in terms of the number of joint projects with BAS institutes.

"In modern terms, we are a bit like twin sisters, because we have the same structure, more or less the same number of institutes. However, we should take into account that they are more than us because the population of Romania is much bigger than ours," the BAS president added.

He said that the celebration of the 155th anniversary of the oldest Bulgarian institution will not be concentrated only in Braila, as it has been so far, but will also include an event at the Romanian Academy in Bucharest. It will have three main highlights.

"One is what Romania contributed first to the formation of the Bulgarian Literary Society, but on a broader scale to the Bulgarian National Revival in general. The second element will be the contemporary cooperation between the two academies. And the third element - the 200th anniversary of the first edition of the Fish Primer," Revalski said.  

He pointed out that a large part of the life and activities of the author Petar Beron were connected with Craiova and that it was in Romania that the first modern for that time manual for children's learning, the Bulgarian one, was created and printed.

He expressed his opinion that people of science and culture are the best ambassadors between two nations and expressed his pleasant impression of the atmosphere and the warm welcome he received from his Romanian colleagues.
