For the second month in a row, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) registered a decrease in prices or deflation on a monthly basis in Bulgaria. In May, the decline in retail prices was 0.2%, after prices went down by 0.3% in April, NSI reported on Friday.
On an annual basis in May, inflation decreased by 0.1 percentage point to 2.3%, from 2.4% in April.
In May 2024, compared to the previous month, the biggest decrease in prices was in the groups Communication (-1.5%), Entertainment and culture (-1%), Transport (-0.9%) and Food products and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.5%). The largest increase was registered in the groups Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products (+1%), Restaurants and hotels (+0.6%), Clothing and shoes (+0.6%) and Miscellaneous goods and services (+0.6%).
