Bulgaria’s Defence Intelligence Service (DIS) hosted a NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) conference, the Service said in a press release on Friday. The forum in Sofia was attended by nearly 130 experts from 16 NATO member states.

The event discussed optimizing the resources needed to execute the intelligence support plan. Several issues were addressed, including the challenges of implementing the Concept for the Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area and SHAPE’s Strategic Plan.

The forum was attended by Bulgarian Deputy Chief of Defence, Lieutenant General Tsanko Stoykov, and DIS Director Brigadier General Venelin Venev.

The leadership of DIS conferred with SHAPE Deputy Chief of Staff and Operations, Major General Matthew Van Wagenen, and NATO Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Force Commander Andrew Clark.

On June 4, DIS published its 2023 annual report. It said that there is a persistent trend towards a shift of global order, disrespect for international law, and preference to use military force as a mechanism for attaining political objectives.
