Minister of Innovation and Growth Rosen Karadimov and Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Hemus-95 Foundation Borislav Buhov discussed the role of innovation in the defence and space sectors, the ministry's press office said on Friday. The two held a working meeting within the framework of the specialised international exhibition for defence equipment and services "HEMUS 2024" in Plovdiv. It is organized by the Hemus-95 Foundation under the patronage of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Economy and Industry.

Karadimov and Buhov also commented on the opportunities for Bulgarian businesses and start-ups in the two areas under the Ministry of Innovation and Growth. "The Space department is of strategic importance for the country and for Bulgarian industry, not only in the defence sector, but also for companies that operate in the space or dual-use sector," the Innovation Minister said. 

"The Ministry of Innovation and Growth is preparing the country's Space Strategy. We also have a working group to establish a Bulgarian Space Agency," Minister Karadimov said. In his words, the ambition of the ministry is for Bulgaria to become an associate member of the European Space Agency, which will create even more opportunities for Bulgarian companies in the sector.

The Minister of Innovation and Growth visited various stands at the exhibition and met with representatives of Bulgarian and foreign companies, the release said.
