The Loran Gallery and the Union of Bulgarian Artists announced on Friday that they are collaborating to present a retrospective exhibition titled "A Solitary Man in the Landscape: Zdravko Aleksandrov (1911-1998)". The exhibition will run from June 6 to June 29 at the Union of Bulgarian Artists' premises at Shipka 6 in Sofia, with curatorial work by Mariyana Avramova and design by Svetla Georgieva-Monhard.
The three-year compilation of Aleksandrov's retrospective includes over 100 works from public and private collections. The exhibition aims to highlight the artist's vast portfolio in Bulgarian landscape art. A monographic edition will also be launched at the exhibition.
Aleksandrov is a renowned alumnus of the State Academy of Art's Decorative Department. He gained early acclaim for his work and participated in multiple exhibitions. He was selected to represent Bulgaria at the Venice Biennale in 1942. His well-known landscape paintings often depict Bulgarian mountains and urban scenes, inspired by his travels and plein-air painting experiences.
The Bulgarian artist has showcased his work internationally and received numerous awards, including the Order of St St Cyril and Methodius. His work is considered a significant part of mid-twentieth century Bulgarian art.
