site.btaCourt Leaves in Custody Albanian Wanted by Italy with European Arrest Warrant
The Kyustendil District Court has decided to leave in custody G. L., a 27-year-old Albanian national wanted by Italy with an European arrest warrant. The man was detained at the Gyueshevo border control checkpoint upon entry in Bulgaria late on May 5, the court told BTA.
G. L. is wanted by the court in Perugia for criminal proceedings against him for organized or armed robbery, which is considered a crime in Bulgaria as well. There are pre-trial proceedings against him in Italy for 11 crimes, all punishable by up to 20 years in prison. G. L. has left Italy and does not have a permanent or current address in Bulgaria, the court's reasoning reads.
The decision is appealable before the Appellate Court in Sofia. A court case is to be scheduled regarding the Albanian detainee's extradition.
