Bulgarian high school students won a full set of medals at the 58th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad in Shenzhen, China, the Education Ministry said on its website on Tuesday. The Bulgarians competed with 151 students from 26 countries.

Viktor Lilov (Year 12, Sofia High School of Mathematics) took Bulgaria’s second ever gold in the competition, following Kamen Petrov’s success in Saint Petersburg (Russia) in 2019. Yavor Hristov (Year 12, Sofia High School of Mathematics) claimed silver and Preslav Georgiev (Year 12, Sofia High School of Mathematics) took bronze. Ivaylo Kartev (Year 11, Plovdiv High School of Mathematics) received an honorary diploma.

The Bulgaria team is led by Assoc. Prof. Hristo Chanev and Assist. Prof. Daniela Tsekova from the Chemistry and Pharmacy Faculty of the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia.
