Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and the US Special Representative for Ukraine's Economic Recovery, Penny Pritzker, discussed the role Romania can play in Ukraine's post-war recovery and reconstruction here on Wednesday, the Romanian Government's press service told BTA. The US Ambassador to Romania, Kathleen Kavalec, also attended the meeting.
Ciolacu said that in terms of preparing and initiating the process of Ukraine's reconstruction, Romania takes the European Union's EUR 50 billion long-term support mechanism for Ukraine as a main reference.
The Prime Minister proposed to have bilateral activities through direct cooperation with Ukraine, as well as via extended formats, at regional level or jointly with strategic partners. He emphasized the importance of having long-term efforts both from the US and the rest of the global community.
Ciolacu stressed that another strategic goal of Romania's is to involve the Republic of Moldova in the reconstruction effort, given that Moldova has been affected by the conflict, while both Ukraine and Moldova need support for the European course they have taken.
