A magnitude 4.7 earthquake hit the city of Elazıg in eastern Turkiye on Saturday, the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) said.

The tremor was also felt in the districts of Bingol, Tunceli, Malatya, Batman, and Diyarbakır, causing panicked residents to spend the night outside.

The earthquake was recorded at 3:25 a.m. local time. It occurred at a depth of 13.83 km, with its epicentre being Elazıg.

Elazıg Valisi Omer Toraman said that there were no reports of negative consequences at that stage. He added that special units, mainly from AFAD, are still conducting field surveys for possible damage, CNN Turk reported.
