site.btaBulgaria's Ambassador to North Macedonia: Bulgaria's NATO Membership Has Changed Regional Security Architecture
Bulgaria's membership in NATO is a political decision with a long-term vision, Bulgaria's Ambassador to the Republic of North Macedonia Angel Angelov said at the opening of a virtual exhibition here on Friday dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Bulgaria's NATO membership and the 75th anniversary of the Alliance, organized by BTA.
The exhibition contains footage and documents from key historical moments in the years related to NATO, preserved in the BTA archive collection. It was presented simultaneously in all of BTA's 35 national press clubs across Bulgaria and abroad, including the BTA Press Club in Skopje, in the presence of representatives of Bulgaria's diplomatic mission in North Macedonia.
"Twenty years ago, no one could even think about Russia's aggression in Ukraine and how we would have been on our own diplomatically had we not been a member of NATO - this is a visionary, practical benefit of our country joining the Alliance 20 years ago. By joining NATO, we changed the regional security architecture, we became a regional leader helping others. We helped Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and the Republic of North Macedonia to join NATO, which we supported unconditionally because it was our geostrategical choice," the Bulgarian Ambassador said.
