Former football player Stiliyan Petrov posted a photo on his Facebook page on Thursday posing with GERB-UDF leader Boyko Borissov after the two played a minifootball match. Petrov, who has played as midfielder for CSKA Sofia, Celtic and Aston Villa, published the picture a day before the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) extraordinary congress scheduled to take place here on Friday morning.

The congress comes after Borislav Mihaylov resigned as BFU president on November 27, 2023, after a wide-scale protest by football fans took place on November 16, 2023. A total of seven contenders will race for the post vacated by Mihaylov. These are Dimitar Berbatov, Mihail Kasabov, Georgi Ivanov, Petyo Kostadinov, Manol Ivanov, Georgi Gradev and Georgi Zahariev.
