“GERB-UDF are not giving the Foreign Ministry to Continue the Change- Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB). It’s simple and clear: Mariya Gabriel – prime minister,” GERB leader Boyko Borissov told journalists here in Parliament on Friday, commenting the upcoming government rotation in March.
Borissov said that the Foreign Ministry is the only one they have and a minister will be elected who will uphold the State’s and not party interests. All other ministers and regional governors will remain with CC-DB, he added. “There will be no more negotiations if this does not happen,” Borissov said.
The GERB leader, who is also a former prime minister in three cabinets, said he was shocked by Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov’s Thursday remarks, who said that he wants the Foreign Ministry so that CC-DB’s voice can be heard, and not the voice of Bulgaria, the Government and the people.
Denkov told journalists while visiting The Hague on Thursday that he does not want the post of foreign minister as such, but rather wants the voice of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria to be loud enough so it can be heard abroad.
Responding to Borissov's remarks, CC-DB co-leader Kiril Petkov said they are not afraid of early elections.
"To threaten with "two-in-one" elections, because you cannot reconcile a team that is already working, and some people start drawing lines for elections, this for me is not only a lack of statesmanship, but also a kind of selfishness, which at this point is absolutely unproductive in the talks," Petkov said.
"Why should we talk about red lines when there is a working team," he asked.
"From our perspective, those type of red lines won't work," he said, adding that his party has never folded under threats.
