The Council of Ministers on Wednesday approved an Agreement between Bulgaria and Egypt on mutual exemption from short-stay visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports. They will thus be able to enter, leave, transit or reside for a period not exceeding 90 days within 180 days, on the territory of the other contracting state.

Lifting visa requirements for diplomatic and service passport holders will boost political dialogue and business contacts between Bulgaria and Egypt, the Government Information Service said. The geographical proximity and historical ties between the two countries, along with Egypt's geopolitical weight, determine the need for an active political dialogue and the development of mutually beneficial trade, economic and investment bilateral cooperation.

Egypt is Bulgaria's largest trade and economic partner in the Middle East and Africa. Bilateral trade volumes exceeded EUR 1 billion in 2023 and there is great potential for their expansion and diversification.
