The cooperation in the field of transport security and high-tech development between Bulgaria and Japan was discussed at a meeting of the Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeikov and Japan’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Hisashi Michigami, the Transport Ministry said on Thursday.

Gvozdeikov said that the rescue of over 370 passengers from a burning plane in less than 90 seconds, which took place a week ago in Japan, will go down in history as an example of discipline and strict implementation of evacuation procedures. Ambassador Michigami added that safety is a topic on which the two countries can share experiences in other areas of transport. As an example, he pointed out that in the 60 years of the use of the bullet train in Japan, there has not been a single incident with human casualties.

"Not only security, but also the development of high technologies is a priority on which the whole government is actively working," Georgi Gvozdeikov noted. In his words, Bulgaria has great human potential in this field and Japan's rich experience would be key for the implementation of more projects and reaching excellence.

"In the field of air transport, Bulgaria is making efforts to open new routes to destinations not only in Europe but also to Asia," the Transport Minister further said. In his words, this is another area in which the two countries should strengthen their cooperation because better air connectivity is a prerequisite for more economic ties and tourist exchanges.
