Bulgarian National Assembly Chairperson Rosen Zhelyazkov and his Vietnamese counterpart Vuong Dinh Hue held a tete-a-tete meeting in Hanoi on Monday. They discussed the role of parliaments in expanding economic and sectoral cooperation. The meeting took place in the framework of a three-day official visit of a Bulgarian parliamentary delegation to Vietnam led by Zhelyazkov at the invitation of Vuong Dinh Hue.

Zhelyazkov and Vuong discussed the role of parliament in developing bilateral relations in a number of areas of mutual interest, the Bulgarian National Assembly said in a press release. Zhelyazkov stressed that Vietnam has been a trusted friend and important partner of Bulgaria for over 70 years. He expressed Bulgaria's desire to further strengthen the traditional relations of close friendship and mutual respect and noted the special attention Bulgaria pays to the Joint Declaration between the two countries.

Bulgarian Parliament’s Chairperson said that there are preconditions for Bulgaria and Vietnam to increase bilateral trade and investments after deepening political dialogue at the highest level. Zhelyazkov expressed confidence that the establishment of a Bulgarian friendship group in the 15th National Assembly of Vietnam would create conditions for expanding cooperation in various areas of mutual interest. Bulgaria is willing to deepen its political dialogue and cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of economy, investment, connectivity, defence, and rule of law, he added.

Vuong noted that Vietnam sees Bulgaria as a friend and partner that can help the country expand its presence in the Balkans and the EU. Vietnam strongly wishes to strengthen its relations with Bulgaria and expand them in the fields of economy, trade, science and education, he emphasized.

Later on Monday, the Bulgarian delegation will hold a protocol meeting with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
