The Tourism Ministry expects a strong winter season, as the last year’s was the strongest since 2019, said Tourism Minister Zaritsa Dinkova during the opening of the skiing season and the new six-seat lift in Pamporovo (Southern Bulgaria) on Friday. Weather conditions show good prospects, she noted.

"Modern tourism requires more and more innovation and modernization. They are also happening here, albeit more slowly. With joint efforts by the state, the local government and private investors, we will improve the infrastructure, but we should not forget that the most valuable in tourism are the people. They are the ones who create the spirit of a place," added Dinkova.

"I highly appreciate the efforts made by investors. The winter season is tough. It is becoming more and more competitive, there is more and more reliance on innovation, investments are becoming more and more expensive, so it is extremely important to feel the support of the State," the Minister stressed.

The celebration also marked the anniversary of the resort. "90 years are not just a respectable period of time, these are years that have gathered the wonderful memories of hundreds of thousands of Bulgarians and foreigners who have encountered this remarkable nature," said Dinkova.

The beginning of the winter season in Pamporovo was also inaugurated with a new six-seat lift to Snezhanka Peak. The ribbon was cut by Dinkova, Smolyan Mayor Nikolay Memelov and Chepelare Mayor Boran Hadzhiev.

The lift has a capacity of 3,000 people per hour, as well as the most advanced drive technology (direct drive) which significantly reduces noise, and a passenger stacking aisle for greater seat occupancy. This investment is also important for the upcoming FIS Snowboard World Cup and European Snowboard Cup events in February.
