July 22 (BTA) - Prime Minister and GERB leader Boyko Borissov Wednesday discussed the matter of cadre changes in the Government during a meeting of the Coalition Council with the participation of VMRO leader Krassimir Karakachanov and NFSB head Valeri Simeonov, the Government Information Service said. Also discussed were economic and social measures for overcoming the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Borissov, Karakachanov and Simeonov agreed to discuss with their parliamentary groups and party leadership the proposed cadre changes in the Government. The Coalition Council will meet again on Thursday to review the results of these discussions, the Government Information Service reported.

The press release gives no further details about a possible government shakeup but earlier in the week, amid large-scale anti-corruption protests calling for the resignation of the Prime Minister and the Government, Prime Minister Borissov said that he wanted to part with three of his ministers - of Finance, of the Interior and of Economy, over suspicions that they were linked to the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, an opposition party which is largely believed to have turned into an indispensable power broker under any government. The three ministers said immediately they were ready to resign, but no actual resignations followed.
