Bulgaria has started major reforms in the field of law and the establishment of counter-corruption authorities, French Ambassador in Sofia Joel Meyer said on Thursday, greeting the participants in an international conference on the fight against corruption. "You have the support of France and the entire European Union. These reforms will create a wholesome social environment," Ambassador Meyer said.

The meeting was organized by the International Bar Association Conference (CIB) and the Club of French-speaking Lawyers in Sofia (CFLS) with the support of the French Embassy and the French Institute in Bulgaria. It marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the CFLS and the 30th anniversary of Bulgaria's accession to the International Organization of the Francophonie.

In another greetings address, Justice Minister Atanas Slavov said the new counter-corruption commission and the constitutional reform in the field of justice are key to Bulgaria's being a law-governed democratic country. Slavov called on public institutions to work for all citizens, not just a part of society.

The conference will discuss matters related to the transparency of public life, the uncovering and prevention of corruption, counter-corruption litigation and legal ethics.
