Bulgarian Olympic Committee President Stefka Kostadinova was elected to the Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the proposal of IOC President Thomas Bach.

The Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission advises the IOC Session, the IOC Executive Board and the IOC President on all the activities of the Olympic Movement that are related to culture in the broadest sense of the term. It facilitates synergies between the various cultural platforms, communities and bodies within the Olympic Movement: academies, museums, national Olympic committees, culture sections of organizing committees for Olympic Games, research centres and universities, and recognized organizations, with a view to achieving better overall impact, Olympics.com says.

The Bulgarian Olympic Committee commented: "This is a major acknowledgement for the personality of Stefka Kostadinova, the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and all its activities related to culture, education and the protection of Olympic values."

As an athlete, Kostadinova dominated women's high jump for about a decade in the 1980s-1990s. Her world record of 2.09 m, set in 1987, still stands today.
