Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov has appointed Prof Violeta Bozhanova President of the Agricultural Academy, the Agriculture and Food Ministry said on Thursday. The appointment is based on a report from Agriculture and Food Minister Kiril Vatev.
Prof Bozhanova was Vice President of the Agricultural Academy until now. She holds a doctoral degree in selection of cultivated plants and is a professor at the Field Crops Institute of Chirpan (Central Bulgaria). She has long-standing administrative and professional experience and has authored more than 90 scientific publications. She is also the co-author of four durum wheat cultivars and one common wheat cultivar, four technologies and one methodology. She has been a lecturer at the Trakia University of Stara Zagora since 2009.
On November 1, Denkov dismissed the Agricultural Academy President, Prof Martin Banov, who was charged with unlawfully downgrading the category of agricultural land to enable third parties to build solar installations on it.
