August 18 (BTA) - Hospitals have no shortages of pesonal protective equipment, Health Minister Kostadin Angelov told journalists in Smolyan on Tuesday, dismissing media reports. According to him, supplies will be enough for three months.

Speaking after a meeting with the leadership of the hospital in Smolyan and medics, the Minister commended the measures that are put in place against COVID-19 there.

Angelov held a meeting with Maya Ilieva, a representative of the protesting nurses in Sofia. According to him, the protest does not aim to protect the interests of the medical professionals but has a different agenda. The Minister said that the medics in Smolyan were surprised by the demands of the trade union and did not acknowledge them.

Angelov said that the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases over the past two weeks is not enough indication that the epidemic is dwindling away.

The Minister said that the healthcare system is prepared for a second COVID peak but no one can say whether there will be one.

"We are preparing for more COVID-19 infections in the autumn and are procuring personal protection equipment and medical supplies," said Minister Angelov. RI/PP/LN
