European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kоvesi will visit Bulgaria on Thursday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said while answering citizens’ questions on Facebook here on Wednesday. The problems that the European Public Prosecutor's Office sees in Bulgaria will be discussed during Kövesi's visit, Denkov noted.

"The judiciary should say who is corrupt and who is not, not politicians to brandish various epithets", Denkov said when asked about the fight against corruption in Bulgaria. That is why amendments to the Counter-Corruption Act have been adopted, he added.

On September 21, Bulgaria's Parliament passed conclusively a Counter-Corruption Bill. Under the Act, the existing Commission for Anti-Corruption and Criminal Assets Forfeiture (CACCAF) was split into two: a Criminal Assets Forfeiture Commission and an Anti-Corruption Commission.

According to Denkov, rules on the composition of the Anti-Corruption Commission should be adopted. These rules are to be considered in the National Assembly in the next two or three weeks, he said. He noted that this is a key step for the justice system to do its job. Denkov urged citizens to file alerts, emphasizing that the justice system cannot do its job if there are no such alerts.

Answering a question whether he expects GERB-UDF to withdraw its support for the government, Denkov said that this is a decision to be made by GERB-UDF. In his words, GERB-UDF may take such a decision if its members are concerned about their private party interests. If they care about the implementation of the government programme set by themselves and Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria, they should not withdraw their support, Denkov explained.
