site.btaHealth Minister Hinkov, MPs Comment on Healthcare System Issues in Bulgaria

Speaking during the  Government Listens panel of the 2023 Powers Summit, Health Minister Hristo Hinkov argued that the Bulgarian healthcare system is fragmented, which leads to ineffectiveness and a lack of results despite funding.

"No one, including me, will raise the issue of increasing the health contribution before we have closed all the loopholes in the system," Hinkov said.
The Health Minister noted that the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the system's weaknesses. 

"However, I am hopeful because I have seen that a system of centralized oxygen therapy is being developed in many hospitals and the provision of infrastructure to separate patient flows if needed," Hinkov also pointed out.

Prevention, prophylactics and the need for health education for adolescents were highlighted as important by MPs from various parliamentary groups who took part in the Government Listens panel of the Powers Summit forum.

Six MPs took part in the panel and summarized what they heard and stated what they took away from the information presented by various health experts in the two previous discussion panels.

The 2023 Powers Summit focuses on healthcare, energy, sustainable development, entrepreneurship, education and investment. Among the participants were representatives of the executive and legislative authorities, business representatives and experts.
