site.btaUPDATED GERB’s Borissov Wants to See Final Results to Decide whether GERB Stays in Government
GERB leader Boyko Borissov said in a news briefing in the southern city of Plovdiv late on Sunday that he wants to see the final results of the mayoral runoffs, town by town, before he decides whether his party will stay in the government. He also accused the power-sharing Continue the Change of coalescing with the nationalist Vazrazhdane and Socialists against the GERB candidates. He called the government arrangement with Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) “an agony” but said it could last very long.
Borissov underscored GERB’s success in the mayoral elections in Plovdiv, where the party appears to have won all boroughs, and in Haskovo Region where GERB had seven out of seven mayors. “Where we lose, we lose against coalitions where CC team up with other parties,” he said.
“There is now a wonderful new coalition now: CC-DB and Vazrazhdane. And I will tell all our Western partners about it,” said Borissov. He accused CC co-leader Kiril Petkov of being hypocritical and said: ”That is why the turnout is so low: people can no longer take the hypocricy.”
He also said that the State is run by “a vile assemblage, it is an agony”. Asked by a reporter how long it will last, he said “Very long”.
He also said that he “relies on [Democratic Bulgaria co-leaders] Hristo Ivanov and Atanas Atanassov to bring some common sense”. “Their voters are smart people,” he added.
