site.btaParliament Fails to Ensure Quorum for Friday's Sitting
September 4 (BTA) - Parliament Friday failed to ensure
quorum to hold a sitting after 112, out of 121 necessary MPs,
had registered as present.
After several unsuccessful attempts for registration and
problems with the electronic voting system, Parliament
Chairperson Tsveta Karayancheva declared Friday's sitting
cancelled and scheduled the next sitting for 9 am on September
9.
During this time, the MPs from the opposition Bulgarian
Socialist Party, who did not register as present, chanted
"Resign". The MPs of the Movements for Rights and Freedoms
either did not register as present in the plenary chamber.
On Friday Parliament was to consider a bill ratifying the
Voluntary Agreement on granting temporary support under EU
Council Regulation to Bulgaria to mitigate unemployment risks in
an emergency situation following the COVID-19 outbreak, to have
a first-reading debate on amendments to the Bulgarian Personal
Documents, and hold Question Time. RY/ZH
