Sofia, September 19 (BTA) - Bulgaria's Chief of Defence Admiral
Emil Eftimov took part in a sitting of the Military Committee of
NATO member states which discussed the challenges to
international security, the Defence Ministry press service
informed on Saturday.
Due to the coronavirus restrictions, the meeting was held via a
video conference.
Addressing the conference, Admiral Eftimov confirmed Bulgaria's
commitment to NATO's operations and missions in Afghanistan,
Iraq, Kosovo and the Mediterranean Sea.
Another topic of discussion was the adaptation of Bulgaria's
participation in the mission in Afghanistan which is currently
under transformation. Admiral Eftimov also declared Bulgaria's
increased commitment to the operation in Kosovo and underscored
the importance of security and stability in the Black Sea region
and the Western Balkans for this country.
The Chief of Defence declared Bulgaria's readiness to host
NATO's Black Sea Region coordination function and task the
national naval coordination center with its operation.
Other topics covered included the Alliance's operations and
missions, as well as its role in the fight against terrorism.
The Chiefs of Defence approved the basic elements of defence and
deterrence in the Euro-Atlantic area.
The conference also discussed the progress in the development of
NATO's key concept for military action, and the lessons learned
from the Alliance participation in the fight against COVID-19.
