site.btaTwo Life Sentences without Commutation Passed in Sarafovo Bus Bombing Case

September 21 (BTA) - The Specialized Criminal Court Monday sentenced the two defendants in the July 18, 2012 Sarafovo bus bombing case to life in prison without commutation. The sentences are appealable before a second-instance court.

In the case, Hassan El Hajj Hassan, 28 (dual Lebanese-Canadian national), and Meliad Farah, 35 (dual Lebanese-Australian national), are tried in their absence for terrorism, murder of six persons (five Israeli holiday-makers and their Bulgarian driver), attempted murder of 35 persons, and damage to property (the destruction of the bus on which the bomb exploded and another one that was parked nearby). The two men are on an international wanted list.

Mohamad Hassan El Husseini (dual Lebanese-French citizen) has been identified as the suicide bomber. RI/DD
