Bulgaria’s highest ranked tennis player Grigor Dimitrov qualified for the semi-finals in the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai on Friday. He joined the final four of the tournament after a 7-6(2) 6-4 win over world No. 22 Nicolas Jarry.

On Saturday Dimitrov will play in his first semi-final at this level since April 2022, when he qualified for the same round in Monte Carlo. This will be his 9th ATP 1000 semi-final overall – he has won only one so far: in Cincinnati in 2017, when he later secured the second-biggest title of his career.

The Bulgarian, ranked at No.19 in the world, achieved his first win over Jarry, after trailing 0-2 in their head-to-head so far.

In the next round he will meet the winner of the match between world No.7 Andrey Rublev and world No.34 Ugo Humbert. Dimitrov's head-to-head with Rublev is 3-3, while he got the better of Humbert in their two previous meetings.

Humbert has never qualified for ATP 1000 semi-final in his career. Rublov claimed his first title on this level earlier this year in Monte Carlo.

On Wednesday, Grigor achieved his third ever win over a player ranked No.2 in the world. He staged a comeback over the top seed Carlos Alcaraz
