The government on Wednesday approved a report in which Finance Minister Assen Vassilev declares to the European Investment Bank (EIB) that Bulgaria intends to participate in the Ukraine Trust Fund. The Bulgarian contribution will be a guarantee to the amount of EUR 10 million.

By participating in the Ukraine Trust Fund, Bulgaria will be able to support Ukraine's reconstruction indirectly through a shared guarantee scheme (involving all EU member states) for EIB operations. Bulgaria will thus reaffirm its strong commitment to the reconstruction and economic development of war-torn Ukraine.

The fund will serve as a temporary bridge solution until longer-term EU measures become available. It will finance both public and private sector projects. The focus will be on municipal infrastructure and on providing Ukrainian entrepreneurs with easier access to funding.

At an ECOFIN meeting on July 11, sixteen EU member states signed letters of intent to contribute to the Ukraine Trust Fund.
