site.btaBulgarian Minister to Attend Inauguration of CERN Science Gateway

Education and Science Minister Galin Tsokov will attend the inauguration of a new facility at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, in Geneva on October 7 at the invitation of CERN Director-General Fabiola Gianotti, Tsokov's ministry reported on Friday.

The opening of the Science Gateway will also be attended by Swiss President Alain Berset, the facility's chief architect Renzo Piano, CERN Council President Eliezer Rabinovici and Director-General Gianotti.

Tsokov will join a ministerial roundtable organized on the occasion.

The Science Gateway is designed to help people of various ages, educational backgrounds and occupations to learn about CERN's discoveries, scientific achievements and technological successes. It is aimed to inspire young people to pursue a career in the technical disciplines known as STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

The new facility will cooperate with education and science centres in the CERN member and associated states. Bulgaria became a full member in 1999.
