Bulgarian Beloslava Krasteva won a bronze medal at the World Junior Chess Championship, which was held in Mexico City between September 21 and October 1.

The 19-year-old Bulgarian had all chances to win the girls' title, but suffered a defeat playing with the white pieces to Candela Be Francisco Guecamburu of Argentina in the final 11th round of the competition. Thus, both Krasteva and Guecamburu finished the tournament with 8.5 points in total each, but the victory in the match between them allowed the Argentinean to win the gold.

Bulgarian Minister Youth and Sports minister Dimitar Iliev sent Krasteva a congratulatory address, the Ministry said in a press release here on Monday. "I congratulate you on the bronze from the World Junior Chess Championship. Your achievement gives you a worthy place in the world chess elite and is a statement for future success worthy of being proud," Iliev said in his address.

"People with your talent are the future of Bulgarian sport and I believe that you will not only represent Bulgaria with dignity in the biggest sports forums, but will also inspire more and more young people to play chess", he added.
