Sofia, October 9 (BTA) - Industrial production in Bulgaria in August declined 5.7 per cent from this time last year, the National Statistical Institute said. It showed an increase of 0.7 per cent from July 2020.

The seasonally adjusted Industrial Production Index in August 2020 increased compared to the previous months in the mining and quarrying industry (by 8.6 per cent) and in the manufacturing industry (by 0.7 per cent), and went down in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (by 0.7 per cent). The most significant production increase in the manufacturing were registered in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semitrailers (by 20.5 per cent), in the manufacture of other transport equipment (by 16.4 per cent), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment by (4.4 per cent), in the manufacture of furniture by 4 per cent. Important decreases were seen in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment by (21.7 per cent), in the manufacture of leather and related products (by 14.3 per cent), in the manufacture of food products (by 6.9 per cent), in the manufacture of other non- metallic mineral products (by 5. 4 per cent).

On an annual basis, the August Industrial Production Index (based on working day adjusted data) fell in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply by (9.8 per cent) and in the manufacturing (by 6.5 per cent), while the production went up in the mining and quarrying industry (by 13.6 per cent). In manufacturing, the more considerable decreases from August 2019 were registered in the manufacture of leather and related products (by 25.9 per cent), in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment (by 25.4 per cent), in the manufacture of fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment (by 18.8 per cent), in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (by 13.8 per cent). Major increases were seen in the manufacture of other transport equipment (by 20.9 per cent), in the manufacture of basic metals (by 11.6 per cent), in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semitrailers (by 9 per cent), in the manufacture of rubber and plastic products (by 7 per cent).
