Sofia, October 20 (BTA) - Bulgaria's healthcare authorities confirmed 1,024 new cases of COVID-19 in the country in the 24 hours until Monday midnight after conducting 4,406 PCR tests, according to data published on the national coronavirus web portal https://coronavirus.bg. This puts the share of positive test results at 23.2 per cent.

The highest number of new cases were registered in Sofia (292), Plovdiv (109), and Bourgas (63).

There are 12,366 active cases. A total of 1,562 are hospitalized, 88 of them in intensive care units.

Twenty-two people died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 1,008. Meanwhile, 210 patients recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 17,153.

Since the start of the pandemic, 1,622 medical professionals have contracted COVID-19.
