Bulgaria’s top tennis player Grigor Dimitrov qualified for the quarterfinals of the hard court tournament in the Chinese city of Chengdu.

In his first match in the competition, Dimitrov won 6:3, 6:4 over Peru's Juan Pablo Varillas in an hour and 26 minutes of play. The success was special for the 32-year-old Bulgarian as it was number 400 for him in ATP tournaments.

Dimitrov decided the match with breaks at the end of both sets.

He will face Australian Christopher O'Connell in the next round.

"I'm happy to be here again. I see a positive welcome from all the people. I'm very happy to have 400 wins already. I've been on the courts for many years, I've been in many tournaments, but this is a special achievement for me," Dimitrov said after his success.

For his victory, the Bulgarian received a special plaque from the organizers, as well as a plush panda.
