site.btaBulgaria Needs More than Two European Delegated Prosecutors

October 26 (BTA) - Laura Kovesi, Head of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO), and Bulgaria's Deputy Prosecutor General Krasimira Filipova, Monday discussed EPPO's functioning and the number of European Delegated Prosecutors (EDPs) who will work in Bulgaria.

Filipova recalled Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev's position that two EDPs would not be enough in view of the work they will have to do in Bulgaria, the prosecution service said.

Filipova expects the National Assembly to shortly adopt amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code and the Judicial System Act aligning the national legislation with EPPO's activity. The amendments define the status and powers of the European Delegated Prosecutors and guarantee their independence in carrying out the investigation and prosecution falling within EPPO's competence.
