Sofia, October 10 (Daniel Stoyanov of BTA) - The first thing one notices about her - before she starts to sing or talk - is her almost heavenly beauty and spontaneous smile. Mezzo soprano Rose Naggar-Tremblay is an artist with real-star qualities who is early in her career path but has already made her mark.

She tells BTA she always seeks movement and change. "Human beings are meant to grow and for me growing is the meaning of life," she says. Her way to grow is travel and when she is held back, like she was during the pandemic, she does it through reading books.

Her diverse background, artistic childhood, an incessant urge to learn, diving in the deep and openness provide the groundwork for her career. Opera gives her everything that she loves, she says.

In the Operaramblings blog, John Gilks wrote about Naggar-Tremblay: "This was a voice to make one sit up and take notice. It's a dark and resonant contraltoish timbre and very expressive but she showed in the Liszt that she has genuine unforced high notes too. Definitely one to watch."

Bulgarian opera lovers have a chance to experience that firsthand on Sunday night as she sings Bizet's Carmen on the stage of the Sofia Opera and Ballet.
She says Carmen is her favorite role together with all the passionate ladies in opera. LN/
