site.btaBulgaria Without Censorship Supports National Budget Update, Will Withdraw Alert Against President

August 2 (BTA) - Bulgaria without Censorship (BwC) stands by the President's arguments in support of a national budget update. This transpired on Saturday from remarks by BwC leader Nikolai Barekov after consultations with President Rosen Plevneliev.

The President is holding a series of consultations with the parties represented in the national and the European legislatureto update them on the priorities of the caretaker government which he is set to appoint later this month.

"Currently, the President is the only legitimate institution in the country," said Barekov, who urged the caretaker government to resume delayed key reforms.

Barekov noted that the five MPs of BwC will attend an extraordinary parliamentary sitting on Monday and will support updated expenditures for healthcare, EU funds, construction companies and municipalities.

BwC oppose taking a loan to prop up Corporate Commercial Bank.Barekov argued that the bank could resume operation without public finances and urged the caretaker government to open the bank.

Barekov said that GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms should take a political responsibility to attend Parliament and vote the budget update.

"The Bulgarian Socialist Party is in a desperate situation and its chairman Mihail Mikov has to salvage a wreck. So don't expect him to react adequately in Parliament, don't expect Ataka either," said Barekov.

He added that one more breakaway MP, allegedly a young expert, will join the party, without naming any names.

Of the caretaker government, Barekov said that he approved the profile presented by the President but that no specific names were mentioned.

Barekov said that the head of State had vowed to comply with the law and appoint a representative for the BwC on the Central Election Commission. Barekov said that BwC's nominee was Katya Ivanova.

Barekov said that he had apologized to President Plevneliev for his conduct towards him in the past year. He said that his statements were ill-thought and had added more pressure. "It is a fact that the President has withstood all accusations and the Presidency is the only stable institution in Bulgaria now," said Barekov. He added that he would withdraw an alert against Plevneliev submitted to the prosecution authorities.
