Over 100,000
Web Domains Registered
in Bulgaria, Company Says

Sofia, November 12 (BTA) - The number of registered web domains
in Bulgaria has increased by 35 per cent in the past three years
and currently exceeds 100,000, said superhosting.bg manager
Metodi Drenovski on Wednesday at a BTA news conference.

The data is also published on the internationally recognized
website hosterstats.com. The company has been working on the
Bulgarian market for two years and its data as of the beginnning
of October shows it is hosting 44,882 domains in this country.
The number of domains hosted in Bulgaria was 92,945 in 2013,
87,749 in 2012 and 78,690 in 2011.

The .bg domain in cyrillic is yet to be introduced. It was
recently approved by the international ICANN organization,
Drenovski said. The next steps needed for starting the domain
were discussed on October 31 at the Ministry of Transport,
Information Technology and Communications.

According to Drenovski the start of new working Bulgarian domain
can be possible in six months. It is still early to make
projections about its price, but it is expected to be reasonable
for the Bulgarian market and take into account maintenance and
technical infrastructure costs, he added. According to
optimistic projections, around 4,000 .bg domains in cyrillic can
be registered in the first year of its introduction. Drenovski
said this would be a good achievement, given that there are only
6,000 domains in cyrillic registered in Russia and Ukraine.
