1955: Diplomatic relations established with Burma (Union of
Myanmar as of May 1989).

1989: Informal movements in Bulgaria hold first free rally in
Sofia's St Alexander Nevsky Square after the fall of the
communist regime on November 10.

2001: Second round of presidential elections won by running
mates Georgi Purvanov and Angel Marin with 54.13 per cent of the
vote.

2004: First liver transplant performed in Bulgaria, on a
seven-month-old girl.
