Extraordinary Defence Council Adopts Statement

Sofia, November 5 (BTA) - Defence Minister Nikolai Nenchev convened an extraordinary meeting of the Defence Council on Wednesday, where the leadership of the Defence Ministry, the Defence Staff, the Joint Command of the Armed Forces and the commanders of the Land Forces, the Air Force and the Navy adopted a statement, the Defence Ministry said.

The statement says that what has been achieved is a good foundation to preserve the stability and the prospects of the military profession. The Defence Minister will launch consultations with all parliamentary parties to win support for the statement. Minister Nenchev and Defence Chief Rear Admiral Roumen Nikolov will present to the parliamentary defence committee an assessment report about the negative effects of the changes proposed to 2016 Budget Bill relating to limitations to the social rights of service persons.

The political and military leadership will do everything possible to protect the interests and the career of all employed in the security sector and ensure stability and predictability in their profession. The members of the Defence Council, which comprises the senior commanders of the Armed, Forces urge the military personnel and employees in the sector to remain a protector of national security and stability in today's aggravated international situation. The Council calls on the military personnel to refrain from rush actions which will lead to social tension and undermine the army's prestige.
